Half a year wiser!
I’m really envious of people who get to celebrate their birthdays with all their friends on the beach playing volleyball and having a massive cookout. See, my birthday is in winter. And not just any random day in winter, but 2 days before Christmas! So naturally, everyone is already on holiday mood and traveling back to their families, which means no one has time to celebrate my birthday! Way to go with the planning, mom & pop… I know, there are far worse things in life that I could be complaining about, but I’ve always wanted a birthday in the summer.
And my coworkers granted me my wish!
For the first time in my 26 years of life, I blew out my first “birthday” candle when it wasn’t snowing and cold outside 
They suggested I organize a half-birthday party and I couldn’t have been more excited. We went to a Mediterranean restaurant in Hermosa Beach where they sung me “Happy Birthday” and cheered to a glass (or three) of wine, followed by a stand-up comedy show at the Hermosa Magic & Comedy club.
I could get used to this – I think I’m going to start celebrating my half-birthday from this year forward. No, it’s not about being self-centered; it’s about throwing different excuses to throw a party
