Event: 1st Birthday Party

There’s something incredibly special about photographing a child’s very first birthday, especially when it’s celebrated at home, surrounded by loved ones. Baby [T] recently turned one, and I had the joy of documenting this sweet milestone in the comfort of their family’s home.

I typically arrive about 20 minutes before guests arrive, which allows time to photograph the birthday child solo while everything is still calm and beautifully styled. This is also when I capture family photos—those quiet, meaningful moments before the party energy fills the room. Once guests start arriving, I photograph them with the birthday child, creating natural, heartfelt portraits as everyone settles in.

For most of the celebration, I take a “fly on the wall” approach, documenting the event as it naturally unfolds. These candid moments—laughter, hugs, tiny expressions, and playful interactions—often become some of the most treasured images. One of the most important milestones of the day is lighting the candle and bringing out the birthday cake, and I always make sure to dedicate extra time and attention to capturing this moment perfectly.

Depending on the size of the party and number of guests, I often wrap up the event with a big group photo—bringing everyone together for one final memory that reflects just how loved the birthday child is.

I truly love photographing events like these. Not only do I get to document meaningful milestones, but it also gives me the chance to mingle with guests and get to know the family better. Once guests feel comfortable with me, it becomes so much easier to photograph genuine, natural moments—and that connection always shows in the final images.

Looking for an event photographer to document your next celebration? I’d love to capture it for you 🤍

Hiromi

WELCOME

I call myself a ‘people’ photographer, specializing in capturing the personalities of people through family, newborn and event photography. I’m originally German-Japanese and was raised embracing both cultures. I was raised in Japan and in many parts of Europe, until I finally settled in Los Angeles to call it my permanent home. My love for photography started at an early age. A fun hobby eventually turned in to a passion when I found joy in taking candid photos of my friends. Naturally, my love for photography turned in to a lifestyle and I was asked to photograph people’s milestones and celebrations. And so, my photography business was born in 2010.

Graduation: Pasadena City Hall

I recently photographed a graduation session at Pasadena City Hall for [J], who had just graduated from dental school. After years of hard work, she wanted to document this major milestone, and I was so
