There’s something so special about bringing the whole family together for photographs. From the littlest family members to the grandparents and great-grandparents, an extended family session is a beautiful way to celebrate the connections, laughter, and love that span generations.
This extended family session at Crescenta Valley Park was such a fun one! With 11 family members ranging in age from just 2 to 87 years old, we had a wonderful, lively group to photograph. With so many generations together, our goal was to capture a variety of family groupings, from everyone together in one big family portrait to smaller combinations of siblings, cousins, and individual family units.
A Shot List That Brings Everyone Together
Before the session, I asked the family to put together a shot list of all the different family groupings they wanted photographed. This is something I highly recommend for extended family sessions, especially when there are multiple generations and lots of family combinations!Having a shot list prepared ahead of time helped us stay organized, move smoothly from one grouping to the next, and make sure we captured all the photographs that were important to the family. It also meant less time figuring out who needed to be in each photo and more time enjoying the experience together.
Crescenta Valley Park is one of my favorite locations for family photography, especially during golden hour. I love the beautiful oak trees and the way the warm sunlight filters through the branches. With convenient parking and an accessible setting for all ages, it’s a wonderful spot for extended family portraits.
Looking to plan your own extended family session? Crescenta Valley Park is a beautiful choice for families of all ages, and I’d be delighted to help you plan a session that captures all the connections and combinations that make your family unique.
