Newborn: At-home Session

There’s no greater joy than welcome a new little bundle to your family. Whether it’s your first or fourth little one, these special moments fly by in a blink of an eye so I always encourage new families to capture this simple, yet exciting, new chapter in stills.

I recommend clients to do their newborn sessions when the baby is between 1 to 4 weeks old. This is an age when babies still sleep for most of the time, and they’re very flexible (aka. moldable!). But if your baby is older than 4 weeks, don’t worry! You’d still get beautiful photos of your little one, with possibly more smiles and awake time.

All of my newborn sessions take place at the comfort of your home. Yes, I come to you with all necessary equipment so you don’t even have to leave the house! My sessions are quite simple: there’s very little posing. Personally, I think the most beautiful and cherished photos are when people are at their naturalist. I tend to stay away from posed photos, such as placing babies in baskets and using unnecessary props, but rather capture the family bonding and getting to know the baby. I choose to use minimal props, such as wraps, headbands, family memorabilia, and anything else that the family chooses to bring in. Newborn sessions take approximately 3 hours. As our little angels are unpredictable, we take frequent breaks and we always make sure that everyone is comfortable. By the end of the shoot, we would’ve captured solo photos of the newborn and family bonding time (pets are welcome too!).

I adore bringing older siblings in the sessions! Just like everyone else, siblings are still adjusting to becoming the “big” brother or sister, so capturing that raw emotion of joy, yet, a little anxiety and confusion, is priceless. That genuine emotion will soon fade as they get used to life with a little sibling.

Congratulations to the [L] Family for welcoming baby girl! Let the journey begin!

xoxo,
Hiromi

WELCOME

I call myself a ‘people’ photographer, specializing in capturing the personalities of people through family, newborn and event photography. I’m originally German-Japanese and was raised embracing both cultures. I was raised in Japan and in many parts of Europe, until I finally settled in Los Angeles to call it my permanent home. My love for photography started at an early age. A fun hobby eventually turned in to a passion when I found joy in taking candid photos of my friends. Naturally, my love for photography turned in to a lifestyle and I was asked to photograph people’s milestones and celebrations. And so, my photography business was born in 2010.
