Proposal: Sunset at Griffith Park Observatory

There’s something so magical about photographing a surprise proposal, and this one at the iconic Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park was unforgettable.

In the weeks leading up to the big day, the to-be groom and I exchanged emails to carefully plan every detail. We decided on a discreet location with a breathtaking view of Los Angeles, and he sent me a photo of them so I could easily recognize them. On the day of, I met them discreetly in front of the Observatory at 5:30pm, then followed at a distance as they made their way to the chosen spot.

When the moment came, he dropped down on one knee against the stunning city backdrop. She was absolutely stunned—and when she said “yes,” the entire crowd around us erupted into cheers! It was such a joyful, unforgettable moment to witness and capture.

After the proposal, we spent the rest of the evening photographing the newly engaged couple around the Observatory. The sunset cast a gorgeous golden light over the mountains, and as dusk fell, the Observatory began to glow—creating the perfect romantic setting for their first portraits as an engaged couple.

What an incredible session! Congratulations again to this beautiful couple—I’m so honored to have been part of your story.

She said yes!

WELCOME

I call myself a ‘people’ photographer, specializing in capturing the personalities of people through family, newborn and event photography. I’m originally German-Japanese and was raised embracing both cultures. I was raised in Japan and in many parts of Europe, until I finally settled in Los Angeles to call it my permanent home. My love for photography started at an early age. A fun hobby eventually turned in to a passion when I found joy in taking candid photos of my friends. Naturally, my love for photography turned in to a lifestyle and I was asked to photograph people’s milestones and celebrations. And so, my photography business was born in 2010.
